Title: Public Emeny #1: Portrait of John Dillingier
Material: oil on canvas
Size: 30×30
Year: 2015
With this re-animation of a police photo of the dead bank robber, I experimented with water-based oil paint to adapt to the reduced studio space available to me when I lived in Hong Kong. As do shapes and colors in many of my paintings, the green arch plays multiple roles, suggesting an engraved image on folding money, or every bank teller’s nightmare of John Dillinger showing up at your window to make a withdrawal.
